3 Ridiculously Easy and Fun Ways to Improve Your Bone Health.

We all know we need to exercise if we want to stay fit and active throughout our lives, but it might not be so obvious how important it is for healthy bones.

Most people reach their peak bone mass between the ages of 25 and 30 and after this we begin to gradually lose bone. At this stage in life it is crucial to engage in weight

bearing exercises to strengthen our muscles and indeed our bones.

There are plenty of exercises we can engage in to help minimize bone loss, like walking, jogging and swimming but there are a few which are extra fun!

Skipping – Grab a jump rope, put on some upbeat tunes and give your bones a great workout. The Osteoporosis Society recommends 2-5 minutes of a physical activity like skipping every day to help prevent bone loss.

Jumping – Another great way to increase bone mineral density, especially in the hips is jumping, in particular – plyometrics. This form of training focuses on learning to move from a muscle extension to a contraction in a rapid or “explosive” manner. I recently

bought a plyometric jump box in an attempt to improve my bone health and I can vouch that it is indeed a great way to change up your exercise routine and adds a bit of fun too! (FYI you don’t need a fancy box – any sturdy box would do.)

Bouncing – The most fun in my opinion is simply jumping up and down on a trampoline! If you have kids and they have one outside it’s a great way to exercise your bones while having a tremendous amount of fun. Try going on a trampoline and not laughing…it’s almost impossible!

Or consider a mini rebounder trampoline for indoors where you can either do normal up and down jumping or gentle bounces where your feet barely leave the trampoline.

Another fun way to increase bone density and improve muscle mass.

So next time you start to lose momentum and interest at your desk and you need a

reset, maybe do your bones some good and try any of the above exercises. Apart from

giving your afternoon slump a jolt, you can rest assured you’re making your bones happy too!
